Conceal / Reveal
From a line drawn in a sketchbook to a layered work of colour, surface and memory.
Conceal / Reveal brought together fifteen works developed from direct observational drawings made in sketchbooks over many years.
Each piece begins as a simple line drawing made from life. Digital layers of colour are then introduced — concealing some elements while revealing others — creating new relationships between figure, surface and memory.
The resulting images sit somewhere between drawing and printmaking, between observation and imagination.
Colour becomes both veil and illumination. What is hidden becomes visible. What is visible begins to disappear.
Selected works
From sketchbook to gallery
The drawing comes first. The composition and many of the marks survive the digital transformation; colour, pattern and layered texture give the image another life.
Imagined interiors
A playful way of imagining how the drawings might inhabit other spaces, beyond the gallery.
